Katie is the new School Garden Coordinator in the SNAP-Ed department at Ascentria Care Alliance in West Springfield. She is new to the nutrition side of education (and to Western Mass!) but has been involved with the local food movement of Eastern Massachusetts for many years. Many of her defining life experiences have been driven by her passion for the outdoors and her enthusiasm for learning about new people, places, and cultures: from studying wildlife ecology in Ecuador and Kenya to teaching natural history on Cape Cod to earning her master’s degree in Outdoor Education in Scotland. She interned at a farm in 2015 and has been involved with growing food ever since! She is very excited to be teaching hands-on gardening education around the West Springfield area, as she strongly believes that giving the knowledge and access to grow your own food is an incredible way to empower and connect people.
