Fall

You may have noticed the leaves that are gently falling to the ground these crisp autumn days.  This is the season of football tailgating, trick-or-treating, and pumpkin spice pleasures. While this season is so tasty, making healthy food choices can take more time and effort.  You are worth it!

Here are three tips to help you make the most of the delicious fall season in a nutritious way:

  1.  At your next fall event, try offering vegetable sticks with a yogurt dip or a salsa with whole grain tortilla chips. Vegetables and whole grains are both flavorful and packed with fiber.
  2. Before you head out with the kids on Halloween, make sure everyone has a well-balanced dinner that includes at least three of the Five Food Groups - Vegetables, Fruits, Dairy, Proteins, and Grains.  Also, drink water while on your neighborhood walk. This will reduce the amount of candy eaten when you get home.
  3. Spend some fun, quality time with your children baking these yummy pumpkin muffins.  While they are in the oven, turn on Michael Jackson’s Thriller song and move your bodies to the music.  This is a quick way to squeeze in physical activity with bonding time.
